The final matches in the Dunlop Memorial Salver were played at Greenacres on Tuesday 24th March and afterwards a lunch and prize giving was enjoyed by all.
Six rinks entered and, after playing each other twice, the winning rink was skipped by Jim Boswell with Hugh Mair, Mary Shaw and Dorothy Moir. Coming a close second was the rink skipped by Bill Alexander with Ed Baines, Chris Clow and Lizanne McMurrich. Third was David Balmer with Jack Blackwood, Elizabeth Shaw and Douglas Haddow.
The infamous “Duck” trophy was equally hotly contested but Francis McCrossin, Wyllie Woodburn, Linda Stewart and Louise MacDonald came through in the end.
To everyone’s approval the Morton Sportsman’s Trophy was won by David Balmer.
The trophies were presented by Margaret Morton who, along with Willie, did so much to make this competition so enjoyable.
The Dunlop Memorial Salver has run for many years with 12 rinks but, for the past two years, we ran it with only 6 rinks. It is played at Greenacres on Tuesdays at 12.30 pm and hopefully next season we can increase this again. Everyone who has played in it would agree that it is competitive and great fun.
